hEAT ‘EM UP Breakfast Wrap

Published on December 29th, 2018 hEAT 'EM UP

This frozen snack is very minimal in its packaging. Are there two wraps? Does it come with cheese? What’s actually inside the wrap? Behold, fellow reader – Student Munch has done the work for you and answered life’s eternal questions. This is one wrap, cut in half. It’s presumably intended to be eaten in one… [Read More]

ASDA Slimzone Chicken Dinner

Published on December 8th, 2018

This frozen meal had been in my freezer a few weeks, and you know sometimes you just need a health food injection? I was craving some vegetables, and this is allegedly 2 of my 5 a day. It took quite a while in the microwave – about 10 minutes – but the instructions were simple… [Read More]

ASDA Slimzone BBQ Chicken with Sweet Potato & Butternut Crush

Published on June 3rd, 2018

Takes bloody ages in the microwave (15 mins from frozen). Incredibly, 3 of your 5 a day. Decent amount of chicken. BBQ sauce not too sweet as feared, actually pretty good! Only 290 calories per pack. I don’t know how they’ve managed it! Sweet potato and butternut squash a bit tasteless.

ASDA Slimzone Sausage & Boston Bean Bake

Published on February 16th, 2018

This from-frozen ready meal packs in a mighty 3 of your 5 a day of vegetables. I didn’t know that when I bought it, but I am very pleasantly surprised! What more nutrition could a hungry student need? Oh but there must be a downside! Are they vegan sausages or something? *checks the packet* 89% pork!!… [Read More]

Golden Dragon Pork Sui Mai

Published on November 11th, 2017 Golden Dragon

A bit of a faff to cook – no microwave option, and assumes you know how to steam things. I don’t. Still, I improvised, and the dumplings looked amazing being slowly sweated to a warm temperature. I left it for more than the instructions said, but still found my first mouthful quite cold so had… [Read More]

Kershaws Fish and Chips with Mushy Peas

Published on September 13th, 2013

At first sight, this looks promising, and looks as though it really could be the fish and chip shop experience from the comfort of one’s own home. In anticipation I sprinkled salt, added vinegar and squirted ketchup to accompany what was, I hope, going to be a nice meal. The mushy peas are pretty good,… [Read More]

Aldi Sausage and Mash

Published on August 16th, 2013

At 89p, very cheap. Impressive what you can get! The sausages have a nice Cumberland flavour, though are gritty in places. They’re quite generously sized, given the cost of the meal. The potato is surprisingly buttery and creamy, though the appearance and texture is very manufactured. What lets the meal down is, surprisingly, the onion… [Read More]

Iceland Beef Stew and Dumplings

Published on August 11th, 2013

Tasty, succulent beef, although the pieces are meagre in size and there aren’t many of them. I also found myself chewing on a huge piece of gristle, which wasn’t a nice surprise. The carrots and crisp enough and sweet, very nice. I found the dumplings to be quite inconsistent – soggy to the point of… [Read More]

Iceland Ultimate Snacks Meatball Subroll

Published on August 6th, 2013

The bread is soft, soggy and chewy, and my first bite split the sub in two, making a very difficult and messy snack. The meatballs are far too soft and instantly instil distrust as to their contents. They taste pleasant enough and have the flavour of a bolognese mince, but where’s the texture?! The sauce… [Read More]

Iceland Minced Beef Hotpot

Published on July 31st, 2013

Too salty. Unpleasant, overly dark flavour. Lots of potato, so quite filling, but ultimately skimping on the meat and veg.
