Grace Cock Flavour Noodle Soup Mix

Chuckle chuckle, guffaw guffaw, tee hee.

We’ve all seen it on the shelf of our local corner market, and we’ve all thought about buying it just to be able to take it home to say “who wants to try some cock”?

So, in a review that may finally see Student Munch blacklisted from the web, I’ve taken one for the team and tried the aforementioned flavour to, err, satisfy your curiosity.

What is Cock Flavour Soup Mix?

According to Grace (the name of the manufacturer – not an ex), cock flavour soup mix is extremely versatile. It can make a nice broth in its own right, or be a good stock for soups or even a good base for a one-pot curry.

Not having the ingredients, the time or the inclination for anything ambitious, I decided to add hot water and just try it as a broth.

Cooking some cock soup

Opening the packet, I can’t figure out what it’s trying to be. It’s 51% noodle, which suggests a Pot Noodle kind of affair, but it’s so powdery it’s more like a cup-a-soup.

I followed the instructions, adding 500ml of water to the mix and bringing to the boil.

The noodles expanded to make it into a fairly decent minestrone.

And did it taste of – ?

– I couldn’t possibly say.

There are some subtle Caribbean flavours at play, cutting through a base that is quite salty. I couldn’t really taste any chicken. But it certainly wasn’t unpleasant, and there were enough noodles to make it feel like a substantial meal (there was actually enough for two).

Don’t knock it till you’ve tried it!
