Kohinoor Dal Makhani

Has a baked bean texture but with smaller beans.

Not too salty at all – a common failure among dals – if anything actually slightly on the bland side.

It’s always tricky to review a side dish. Pictured here is half of the dal, along with fried courgettes, brown rice and Caribbean pork steaks. Unlike everything else, this was super simple to prepare – just two minutes in the microwave.

The dal was a perfect accompaniment to an otherwise dry dish. I was trying to go for something healthy, and hopefully the dal falls under this category, with it 4.8g of fibre for every 100g.
