Waitrose Vegan Mushroom Carbonara

Published on December 14th, 2019

Can there be a more quintessentially middle class dish than a vegan, Italian dish from Waitrose? Perhaps only if it the mushrooms were hand picked from the garden. But that wouldn’t have worked very well for this dish: my garden might just about grow a weed or two; nothing as rich and earthy as the… [Read More]

Sainsbury’s Fully Loaded Meat Feast pasta

Published on November 30th, 2019

The ingredients list aren’t hugely promising: “smoked British formed ham with added water”. Formed ham. With added water. Doesn’t exactly make your mouth water, does it? Still, each chunk of ham feels suitably meaty at the chew. The meatballs are better ignored. They taste very much of sage and breadcrumb; it’s hard to imagine there… [Read More]

Wai Wai Beef Casserole Noodles

Published on November 2nd, 2019 Wai Wai

Look at the pictures – that steak was delicious, but I take full credit for that. Noodles were a little overcooked but that’s because I was preoccupied with the steak. This ended up being a really full-flavoured beef broth. But it’s incredibly difficult to review something that takes second stage to that gorgeous steak. All I… [Read More]

Feasters Premium Double Sausage Breakfast Bap with Cheese & Tomato Ketchup

Published on October 5th, 2019

This is an artery clogging feast. Pleasant sausage flavour, a bit softer than the McDonald’s Sausage McMuffin and less meaty, but still good. They’re big too. Frankly it would have been fine with 1 sausage, not 2. Ketchup cuts through the fat nicely. Zero nutritional benefit, but quick, filling, tasty junk food.

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Beef Hash

Published on August 31st, 2019 Sainsbury's Taste the Difference

Tasty, good chunks of beef, nice crunch on the potatoes, polenta makes the gravy nice and thick. Generous portion for one. Only has an oven cook option, and definitely not healthy, but good comfort food. A slow-cook, indulgent treat.

ASDA Vegetarian Mac ‘N’ Cheese Leeks

Published on July 6th, 2019

Bought this, reduced, and spontaneously, when I already had far too much in my shopping basket. Never go to ASDA when you’re hungry and you’ve just been paid. This would be a decent main course on its own, but I thought I’d have it as a side dish with my lasagne & salad. In a… [Read More]

Vifon Złoty

Published on May 18th, 2019 Vifon

You know when you see something on a shelf and you… just don’t know what it is? Most people just keep on walking. Not I. I pick up the packet and shove it in the trolley. Ready Steady Cook! So I have no idea what złoty or łagodna means, but the picture looks fairly innocuous… [Read More]

Kingston Town Jerk Chicken with Rice & Peas

Published on May 11th, 2019

Two whole chicken thighs – that’s impressive for a ready meal! The rice is very saucey, but it’s not overly tomatoey. It actually stops the meal from being too dry. Kinda salty, but tastes great. A bit pricey but good quality.£3.80 RRP. Around the £3.20 mark would be better.

Blue Dragon Spicy Thai Flavour Noodle Wok

Published on April 20th, 2019 Blue Dragon

Lots of packaging. Fork provided, so no washing up. Strong kick of chili – really quite spicy actually! Moderate lemongrass flavour. Enjoyed that much more than expected.

Koka Chicken flavour Instant Noodles

Published on March 16th, 2019 Koka

This pot of one-serving instant noodles was so huge on the local B&M shelf that I had to give it a try. I could barely fit it in my food cupboard when I got home, which served as a good excuse to rip into it and eat it right away. The noodles look a little… [Read More]
