Waitrose Korean BBQ pork with sticky rice

Published on November 23rd, 2019

The plastic peels away nicely, unlike a lot of rubbish ready meals nowadays. And it’s clear, which is better for recycling. So far so good. Having said that, there’s an odd black plastic insert you have to remove halfway through cooking. It keeps the sauce away from the rest of the food, but it’s fiddly and… [Read More]

Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Mangalorean Chicken Curry

Published on November 18th, 2019 Sainsbury's Taste the Difference

Posh packaging – got a little cardboard flap to show you more info you’re unlikely to read. Slippy packaging too – it all slides out of the plastic and onto the plate like a satisfying non stick pan. Portion looks meagre when emptying out each individual compartment, but it goes a long way. Creamy like… [Read More]

Speedy Chef 2 Doner Kebabs

Published on November 9th, 2019 Speedy Chef

Cooked for 2 mins as instructed, in a more powerful microwave than instructed (800W) and took a bite; it was still frozen in the middle. So I put it back in for another minute and a half. That meant it came out PIPING hot, and I struggled to eat it. I was almost the first… [Read More]

Wai Wai Beef Casserole Noodles

Published on November 2nd, 2019 Wai Wai

Look at the pictures – that steak was delicious, but I take full credit for that. Noodles were a little overcooked but that’s because I was preoccupied with the steak. This ended up being a really full-flavoured beef broth. But it’s incredibly difficult to review something that takes second stage to that gorgeous steak. All I… [Read More]

ASDA Curried Chickpeas

Published on October 26th, 2019

About 2 mins in the microwave. Difficult to get out of packaging without scaling fingers – whole pouch gets hot! Verdict? “Tastes like Christmas”. Specifically, cinammon, cloves. Also cumin. Nice flavour. Mild. Goes well with a main course.

Pasta ‘n’ Sauce Mac ‘n’ Cheese

Published on October 19th, 2019

A little bit of a faff – have to measure out water and milk and waste a saucepan (the washing up! 😫) Ends up being FREAKIN’ HOT, so watch your mouth. Tastes good, if a little al dente in texture.

Pot Rice Chicken Risotto

Published on October 12th, 2019

First mouthful very salty. This turns out to be a little ‘bomb’ of flavour powder that hadn’t been mixed properly. (I did stir this thing, several times). Tastes like mushroom soup. But even with that texture, the rice is still quite chewy. Claims to have 2% chicken, but I couldn’t find any. VERY hot. Burned… [Read More]

Feasters Premium Double Sausage Breakfast Bap with Cheese & Tomato Ketchup

Published on October 5th, 2019

This is an artery clogging feast. Pleasant sausage flavour, a bit softer than the McDonald’s Sausage McMuffin and less meaty, but still good. They’re big too. Frankly it would have been fine with 1 sausage, not 2. Ketchup cuts through the fat nicely. Zero nutritional benefit, but quick, filling, tasty junk food.

Sainsbury’s be good to yourself chicken biryani

Published on September 28th, 2019 Sainsbury's be good to yourself

Bland, and quite dry, owing to its virtuosity. The fact that it’s only 397 calories means you’re still quite hungry after. In its favour, the chicken has flavour and is quite succulent, and the dish is 1 of your 5 a day.

Mama Cup Rice Vermicelli Shrimp Tom Yum

Published on September 21st, 2019 Mama

This was pretty poor. First of all, it’s wrapped in an unnecessary layer of plastic. I’m trying to get more eco conscious and this really isn’t helping. The pot seems way oversized for what noodles are in there, but this is an illusion and it does actually fill up and absorb the water well. But… [Read More]
