Kohinoor Bombay Egg Curry cooking sauce

Published on June 17th, 2018

I saw this in Tesco and just had to give it a try. At £1.49, it’s a decent sized sauce that opens nicely from the packaging. No eggs in it, of course; you’ll have to hard-boil these yourself. The shelling is a bit of a pain but this isn’t pitched as a quick, easy meal! The… [Read More]

ASDA Slimzone BBQ Chicken with Sweet Potato & Butternut Crush

Published on June 3rd, 2018

Takes bloody ages in the microwave (15 mins from frozen). Incredibly, 3 of your 5 a day. Decent amount of chicken. BBQ sauce not too sweet as feared, actually pretty good! Only 290 calories per pack. I don’t know how they’ve managed it! Sweet potato and butternut squash a bit tasteless.

Rustlers Grilled Chicken Sandwich with Mayo

Published on May 20th, 2018

Nice and meaty chicken. Toasted bun is wonderful. Mayo gives it a good creaminess. Got it on offer – £1.05. Can’t go far wrong!

Pot Pasta Creamy Carbonara

Published on May 6th, 2018

Remove the lid, disappointment – hardly anything in here! Add hot water, stir, leave for five whole minutes. Pleasantly surprised when I returned – the pasta comes out normal size! Sauce is deliciously thick and creamy for a “just add water” dish. Nice bacon flavour, though no visible bits. I wondered if there maybe wasn’t… [Read More]

The Original Patty Co. Jerk Chicken Patty

Published on March 5th, 2018

Smells of BBQ. Very sweet aroma. Pastry holding up a lot better than the previous patty we reviewed. Very strong herb flavour, like an over-the-top lamb tagine. Quite a perfumey experience. Not unpleasant as such, but definitely hits you. Pleasant kick of chilli in the aftertaste. Reasonably well filled. Good ratio of filling to pastry…. [Read More]

Port Royal Jamaican Beef Patty

Published on February 5th, 2018

Quick and cheerful, this is a decent sized snack for 85p. Clear cooking instructions, minimal packaging, maximum ease. Putting it on the plate to microwave, it looks a bit thin – what you want to see is a patty packed with meat. 1 minute in the microwave, and the pastry comes out a bit damp… [Read More]

Feasters Cheese Burger

Published on December 21st, 2017

Like its double-stacked brethren, this is quick, easy, tasty, good value. And unlike the double stack “cheeseburger”, this one’s separated it out as “cheese burger”. Make up your minds, Feasters! OCD aside, I can’t really fault these burgers. I’d happily have them again and again. For a 5* review, they’d have to be positively gourmet…. [Read More]

Tesco Meal For One; Sweet & Sour, Chinese Chicken Curry

Published on December 17th, 2017

I was impressed when I picked this out for £2 at my local Tesco. It felt big and heavy. I actually had to read the packaging to confirm that yes, it is a meal for one, and I could legitimately pig out on this without any feelings of guilt or remorse. When I got it… [Read More]

Golden Dragon Pork Sui Mai

Published on November 11th, 2017 Golden Dragon

A bit of a faff to cook – no microwave option, and assumes you know how to steam things. I don’t. Still, I improvised, and the dumplings looked amazing being slowly sweated to a warm temperature. I left it for more than the instructions said, but still found my first mouthful quite cold so had… [Read More]

Feasters Premium Double Stack Cheeseburger

Published on November 8th, 2017

Burger offered two methods of cooking – microwave the whole thing, or microwave the burgers and toast the buns. In the interests of fairness I should probably have gone for the former, for a fair test against the Rustlers brand. But in the interests of my taste buds, I went all out and separated those… [Read More]
