ahh! Bisto Roast Chicken Dinner

Published on June 8th, 2013 ahh! Bisto

The stuffing is hard and overcooked, with a strong taste of sage. The chicken breast is a generous portion and is reasonably tender, though the flabby chicken skin does not taste pleasant. As is to be expected, the gravy is quite tasty, though on the salty side. The carrots and peas are nicely cooked and… [Read More]

Kershaws Grilled Beef Steaklet and Chips with Onion Gravy and Beans

Published on April 12th, 2013

Chewy chips, beans that dry out in the microwave, and a “steak cutlet” that is more like a greasy, low quality burger- I can’t say I’m impressed with this meal. Everything tastes ok, despite the rather odd coupling of onion gravy and baked beans, but the food looks dire.

Tesco Finest British Roast Chicken Soup

Published on March 30th, 2013

Reasonably tasty. Actual pieces of chicken, some of them almost an inch long! Nice, easy microwave instructions. Nice idea. More chicken then expected, and more than it first appears. Not bad!

Iceland Chicken Roast Dinner

Published on March 28th, 2013

The roasts are much nicer and crisper than most roast potatoes from the microwave. “Shaped” chicken is never good; this tastes and feels a little artificial, though it’s quite succulent as a result. And the portion size is good. The chipolata was practically inedible- incorrect microwave instructions here, that little thing was SOLID! The gravy… [Read More]

goblin Steak and kidney pudding

Published on February 13th, 2013 goblin

Not appetising looking. Distinct dog-food smell. Thick, soft pastry- no crust, and not much filling. Not an unpleasant taste. Relatively painless microwave instructions, though a little messy and ambigious. Difficult to know where this fits in- it isn’t really suitable as a snack, but even with chips this wouldn’t go far as a main meal.

Iceland All Day Breakfast

Published on February 2nd, 2013

This is a mixed bag of delights- let me dissect them one by one. The egg has a peculiar pancake flavour. Apart from the fact that it looks so unnatural and uninviting, it actually tastes better than some of the rubbish they claim is scrambled egg in hotel buffets. These are clearly appalling sausages- bready… [Read More]

Newgate Quality Foods Premium Roast Turkey Dinner

Published on January 24th, 2013 Newgate Quality Foods

I don’t see what’s “premium” about this meal- is it the two sad looking sprouts, the one tiny lump of stuffing or the clearly artificially processed turkey in perfect circles? The gravy tastes meaty and rich, and the carrots are small, cute and juicy. The turkey tastes okay too, even if the texture is a… [Read More]

Heinz Farmers’ Market Broccoli + Stilton Soup

Published on November 7th, 2012

The cheese and the broccoli come through very strongly. Finally, a soup that doesn’t taste like every other cup-a-soup! Not overly blended- nice little bits of potato and onion here and there. Tasty, nutricious. Beware this is stilton cheese, and tastes like it. Don’t expect cheddar! Lovely, powerful, mature cheese, which isn’t too strong for… [Read More]

Tesco Real Ale Beef Stew and Dumplings

Published on July 3rd, 2012

Meaty sauce. Pleasant but nothing special. Packed with meat and potatoes- good, hearty food. The dumplings are a bit disappointing- total lack of flavour, slightly too sticky. Still, they’re adequate, and there are two of them. Nicely cooked beef.

Fray Bentos Smooth Chicken and Mushroom Pie

Published on May 31st, 2012

This looked very uninviting when I opened the tin- I was greeted by a light brown sludge that I was willing to bet my life savings on the fact that it couldn’t possibly turn into a nice pastry. Luckily, my life savings don’t amount to much. The act of cooking the pie works some amazing… [Read More]
