Sainsbury’s Spaghetti with Spicy Meat & Vegetable Meatballs

Published on June 23rd, 2020 Sainsbury's My Goodness!

The ragu is not rich, it’s basically tinned tomatoes with some garlic. It’s not bad, but it’s nothing special. There’s a pitiful quantity of cabbage, which just about tips the balance for it being 1 of your 5 a day. The meatballs allegedly contain beef and pork, but all I can taste is vegetable. It’s… [Read More]

Sainsbury’s Spaghetti Meatballs

Published on June 15th, 2019

This didn’t look very appetising in my local supermarket – a splat of tomato on some rather fake looking meatballs, under a pile of spaghetti that will inevitably disintegrate on heating in the microwave. Still, I fancied something Italian, and I thought I’d review this for the benefit of you, my lovely dear reader. First… [Read More]

Iceland Ultimate Snacks Meatball Subroll

Published on August 6th, 2013

The bread is soft, soggy and chewy, and my first bite split the sub in two, making a very difficult and messy snack. The meatballs are far too soft and instantly instil distrust as to their contents. They taste pleasant enough and have the flavour of a bolognese mince, but where’s the texture?! The sauce… [Read More]

Sainsbury’s Basics Pork and Bacon Meatballs in tomato sauce

Published on July 2nd, 2013 Sainsbury's Basics

These are a taste from my childhood, so perhaps I’m a little biased. These aren’t high quality meatballs by any stretch of the imagination: they have an odd, rubbery texture. They don’t taste particularly meaty. They don’t resemble anything on earth. But damn it, the sauce is a well balanced blend of tomato and sweetness,… [Read More]

Iceland Spaghetti and Meatballs Meal For One

Published on July 2nd, 2013

Immediate failings: this comes in bags that are difficult to poke holes in during the first step of cooking and dangerous to empty once the cooking is finished. I followed the instructions correctly but the spaghetti was still cold (not tepid, COLD) in the middle. Consequently, I had to cook the whole thing for longer,… [Read More]

Chira Chicken Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Published on March 28th, 2013 Chira

I anticipated these to be really, truly godawful. Having worked myself up into a state while cooking these, the time finally came to taste a meatball. These are very soft, aside from the gritty little pieces in every meatball, the identity of which I do not wish to know. They look and taste extremely artificial-… [Read More]

Fray Bentos Meatballs in Tomato Sauce

Published on September 29th, 2012

I dipped my fork in the sauce and tasted it- it wasn’t bad. This gave me hope! The meatballs were still horrid, but didn’t make me gag. The fact that I was expecting it to shows just how bad the previous meatballs were. The sauce is quite nice, very similar to other meatball sauces. The… [Read More]

Tesco Everyday Value Meatballs

Published on June 11th, 2012

A very soft, spongy texture, tasty enough, but soft even compared to Sainsbury’s basics meatballs. Has the texture of a custard slice. Tasty tomato sauce, though you can practically feel it clogging up your arteries as you eat. Dread to think what’s in these meatballs, but they too are tasty. 3*

Fray Bentos Meatballs in Gravy

Published on March 21st, 2012

Absolutely VILE. The first mouthful I took was a whole meatball- and I feel robbed on the “meat” part. This “meat” is akin to hotdog meat. Absolutely horrid. The texture is softer than banana, and it’s not as if the taste makes up for it. It’s bland, with some artificial meaty smokiness somehow infused into… [Read More]
