Sharwood’s Chicken Chow Mein Noodles

Published on March 30th, 2019 Sharwood's

This didn’t look too promising at first glance- the noodles barely fill 25% of the pot. Bit of a faff to prepare – stir, recover with foil lid, 2 mins, stir, recover with foil lid, 3 mins. The end result is good. It smells nice and authentic, like a chow mein. And there’s 5% chicken, in some… [Read More]

Koka Chicken flavour Instant Noodles

Published on March 16th, 2019 Koka

This pot of one-serving instant noodles was so huge on the local B&M shelf that I had to give it a try. I could barely fit it in my food cupboard when I got home, which served as a good excuse to rip into it and eat it right away. The noodles look a little… [Read More]

Nissin Soba Classic Noodles

Published on February 23rd, 2019

Probably the best textured noodles you’re going to get in a pot. Whereas something like Pot Noodle is more like a broth and gets very wet, this one’s USP is its dryness – and it does give it a more authentic feel. The end result is quite an appetising looking stir fried brown noodles. The… [Read More]

Mug Shot Roast Chicken Pasta

Published on February 9th, 2019

“Fill to 15mm from brim and boiling water. Stir thoroughly”. As you can see, it doesn’t apply to my Mr Handsome mug. This ended up being a weird soupy broth for my pasta, which somehow managed to stay crunchy despite the ocean of hot water each pasta tube was now sitting in. I was hungry,… [Read More]

Kohinoor Lucknowi Adraki Bhuna cooking sauce

Published on December 1st, 2018

Wow, this is actually pretty spicy. A good, rich bhuna. Onion based and dark in colour. Too spicy though, for what it is. Taste profile: chili, a touch of cumin and ginger, but mostly just heat.

Kohinoor Dal Makhani

Published on October 28th, 2018

Has a baked bean texture but with smaller beans. Not too salty at all – a common failure among dals – if anything actually slightly on the bland side. It’s always tricky to review a side dish. Pictured here is half of the dal, along with fried courgettes, brown rice and Caribbean pork steaks. Unlike… [Read More]

King Pot Noodle Original Curry flavour

Published on September 9th, 2018

Nice curry flavour, not too hot. Think of a coronation chicken sandwich without the chicken… or the sandwich. Mango sauce provided gives a nice undertone of sweetness and clovey goodness. King size doesn’t seem much more filling than a standard pot noodle – I’m gonna have to double check the grams of noodles and compare!… [Read More]

Batchelor’s Pasta ‘n’ Sauce Smoky Cheese & Pancetta Flavour

Published on September 2nd, 2018

Pretty painful instructions. Add 250 ml of water, 100ml of milk, 10g of butter (optional), put in a large bowl, apply microwavable film (?!), pierce holes in it, microwave for several minutes and figure out when to stir twice during the cooking process. But I’m impressed with the end result. It has a nice smoky… [Read More]

Naked Rice Japanese Katsu Curry

Published on August 12th, 2018

Easy prep. Choice of three consistencies – thick and intense, medium (recommended), and thinner sauce, based on how much water you put in. Quantities look rather timid when you take the lid off. It has real chicken in it – but less than 2%. Nice curry smell permeates the air. Rice is cooked ok, I… [Read More]

Batchelors Pasta ‘n’ Sauce Tomato Basil & Mascarpone

Published on July 29th, 2018

In the interests of a good review, I followed the instructions to a T. Oven hob, measured quantity of milk, heat through for specified time, serve. A faff, and more washing up than I’d like, all for… crunchy pasta. And boy, is there a lot of it! Take a look at the last couple of… [Read More]
